It's still a mystery why the railing was put there and I agree it's sad, that's how it makes me feel.Mary Adamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02928467917550027272noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33295315.post-24918076801634061102009-12-02T10:48:38.042-05:002009-12-02T10:48:38.042-05:00This urge to wrap things up, fence them in, deline...This urge to wrap things up, fence them in, delineate what is the park and what isn't is fascinating. It is not even as if having the fence makes any material difference - nobody thought 'let's put up a fence to stop people stealing the park'. so it is down to appearance - somebody thought 'it would look better if...' Rather sad really.Garethhttp://www.combingmyhair.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33295315.post-19490977708719346482009-11-21T19:17:48.832-05:002009-11-21T19:17:48.832-05:00I agree, the second photo is better as a photo. Imagine looking to your right, across the railing, into the Savannah (a public park), or out of it -- this is where the railing becomes annoying and intrusive. The thing is, why is it there, what purpose is it serving? We've had no railing for at least 30 or 40 years, why do this now?Mary Adamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02928467917550027272noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33295315.post-64726612044036168312009-11-21T18:39:59.554-05:002009-11-21T18:39:59.554-05:00This has really got me thinking because my immedia...This has really got me thinking because my immediate reaction was that the second picture is more aesthetically pleasing.

But then I don't have the associations - and it is only one particular view point - and I suspect in life I would not like it either.

But in the picture I do... so what does that tell me about art and reality? I shall ponder.

Can you tell I studied philosophy as my first degree...The bike shedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05195882998271591934noreply@blogger.com
